I'm wondering what is the best plan of attack to get my credit score in a better place.
We have 4 credit cards between husband and I, plus 1 credit account - total balances $7688 to credit limits of $10250. I also am an authorized user on my mom's Discover Card, credit limit of $35K, used for almost everything she does but paid in full each month.
I have about 8 collections on my report, all medical, of varying amounts from $100 to $1000, for a total of about $3000. Husband has 5 or 6, all medical, for a total of about $4000.
I have read for medical collections to not even bother attempting to pay any account that is under $250, or older than 2 years, due to the negative impact on the credit report. I've also read that medical collections now hold little weight on the credit report/score anyway.
My question is do I start paying more on my credit cards - I currently pay on auto pay more than the minimum payment but we also very rarely use them - to bring the balance down and increase the amount of available credit or attack the collection accounts? Which will make more of an impact on our credit report?
